Mycelium Monthly #1 Regenerative Design, the Metacrisis, Bioregions & Zen.
A monthly synthesis of my most meaningful experiences, experiments and learnings related to regenerative transformation.
I thought I’d try something new 🧪
Besides creating longer posts on a particular topic, I thought it would be nice to share a short but sweet synthesis of some of my most meaningful experiences, experiments and learnings related to regenerative transformation each month.
Welcome to the Mycelium Monthly.
Enjoy!
Event I went to 🌲
I joined the Nordmarka Forest retreat in Oslo as part of the RSD12 Symposium: Entangled in Emergence. It were 3 beautiful days in the forest, where we explored regenerative and systemic design, eco-centrism, reflexivity and so much more. Learn more about systemic design practices here.

Resource I’m exploring 🗃️
My dear friend Josine Bakkes and ATÖLYE recently released the Regenerative Community Design Canvas. This canvas consists of a 4-step design flow that will help you evaluate the regenerative potential of an existing project, a new project, or to design community services and products to support both human and living systems. More tools and resources are in the works at the Regenerative Design Academy 🪄
Book I’m reading 📚
Besides doing the course, I’m reading Zen and the Art of Saving the Planet by Thich Nhat Hanh. It’s a powerful yet gentle book teaching me how to balance urgency and stillness. Zen is a powerful practice for cultivating clarity, resilience and the courage to act in embodied and compassionate ways.
“An essential condition to hear the call of the Earth and respond to her is silence. If you don’t have silence in yourself, you cannot hear her call: the call of life.”
—Thich Nhat Hanh
Podcast I enjoyed 🎙️
In this beautiful conversation author and poet Krista Tippett and Reid Hoffman, founder of LinkedIn, investor and also known as ‘philosopher of Silicon Valley’, converse about creating “contained, boundaried AI”, the nature of friendship, conversational AI, and what it means to be (more) human.
Video that resonated ▶️
If you watch one thing today, let it be this. It’s a raw and radically honest talk on the Metacrisis by Daniel Schmachtenberger at the Stockholm Innovation Week. He cuts through all the innovation b*llshit with a laser-sharp analysis of the entangled mess we’re in.
Something I’m exploring 🧪
Inspired by Bioregional Weaving Labs, Design School for Regenerating Earth, Daniel Christian Wahl, Bioregional Learning Centres and many others, I’m exploring the potential of co-creating a (bio)regional learning centre to regenerate the Oslofjord. Together with many new friends in Norway, we dream of a space where we can connect, envision, learn and experiment together on how to collectively bring the fjord back to life. I’ve also created this overview to illuminate and connect the growing global bioregional movement. Let me know if you want to get involved!

Vi ses 👋
I’m now off to a 10-day silent Vipassana meditation in Sweden to “look deeply at reality” and “see things as they really are”. I’ll be back online after the 5th of November. I’m looking forward to reconnect with all of you with a fresh perspective on life 🍃
Did you like this first Mycelium Monthly and do you have any suggestions for improvements? Let me know in the comments 💬
I will continue to create more in-depth articles, e.g. on bioregioning, regenerative design, systems mapping, planetary collaboration and much more.
Great job Tijn! The new, more personal format is really engaging. And I hope you find glimpses of peace and happiness during Vipassana - the time at Dhamma Sobhana truly had an impact on me :)
A rare mix of so many of my passions in the same place! Much appreciated Tijn 🙏🏻
